 Summer 2020

Graduate Research Mentor

The Summer Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI) is designed to introduce undergraduate students to academic research by conducting a faculty-mentored research project in their discipline over the course of nine weeks during the summer. Students develop their skills to better understand their purpose at a research university and become familiar with research in their discipline. While in this position, I will conduct group tutorial sessions (i.e. workshops on writing research abstracts, preparing for graduate school, etc.). I also will conduct individual tutorial sessions with program participants to work on research, writing, communication skills, and creating an individual academic plan to pursue graduate studies.

Lead Student Coordinator, Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Summit

This program is designed to teach students about social justice and different social identities (i.e. Gender, Race, Ethnicity, Sexual Orientation, Disability, Socioeconomic class, Sex, and Religion). While in this position, I helped set up/created/lead activities to help students better understand and discuss the different privileged and oppressed social identities.

Social Media Coordinator, UNH Office of Multicultural Student Affairs

While in this position, I posted social justice related articles on the official OMSA social media pages that promoted discussion. I facilitated discussions focused around social justice issues within multiple office-led events for students. Lastly, I provided peer mediation and assisted students with any school related needs.

September 2012-May 2015

Office Assistant, UNH Women's Studies Department

I assisted students who were interested in majoring or minoring in Women’s Studies. I promoted multiple Women's Studies programs through both classroom visits and tabling. I also facilitated multiple discussions around women’s issues and social justice topics through planned events and presentations. Lastly, I answered phones, filed paperwork, updated course flyers, created and distributed student evaluations, and assisted in setting up for events.

Internship, UNH Race & Ethnic Studies Department; President's Commission on the Status of People of Color

I created and maintained spreadsheets for the department in order to access necessary information easily. I assisted with department publicity activity such as planning events focused on multiculturalism. I also facilitated discussions around race and social justice work, etc. Lastly, I attended monthly meetings focused on retaining students of color, educated community of campus wide issues, and made the campus climate more welcoming for students of color.

January 2014-May 2014

Multicultural Awareness Chair, Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority Inc., Rho Chapter

While in this position, I increased the awareness of multicultural and social justice issues at the University of New Hampshire through planned campus wide events that served to educate and promote diversity and culture. I also planned and collaborated with different organizations in order to create programs for DXP’s annual campus-wide Multicultural Awareness Week.
